Man wanted in N.C. tasered, apprehended in New Brunswick.

March 5, 2010

NEW BRUNSWICK — Federal marshals broke down a door this morning at the Howard Johnson Express Inn on Route 1 and tasered a man wanted in North Carolina on statutory rape charges after he refused to surrender, authorities said.

Once the man was subdued, a loaded .22-caliber handgun that he was fumbling with was found in his bed, said Michael Schroeder, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service.

The fugitive, Thomas Feldheim, 27, was charged with weapons offenses and awaits extradition to North Carolina, Schroeder said.

Feldheim is accused of meeting a 13-year-old girl on an Internet chatroom and having sex with her, Schroeder said.

After receiving a tip that Feldheim was in the motel and armed, marshals, state police and officers from the

Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office — about 15 in all — converged on the motel room about 5 a.m. today.

Schroeder said the marshals knocked and announced themselves and received no answer, but heard movement in the room. After they rammed in the door, Feldheim, who was lying on an inflatable bed on the floor, refused to show one of his hands, Schroeder said.

Feldheim was not injured after being shocked, Schroeder said.

Another man in the room was not charged.

Feldheim is being held at Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick with no bail being set.
